The Advantages of Avodart Hair Loss Treatment

For those folks who experience hair loss on a daily basis and are not satisfied with the results obtained by traditional hair loss medications such as Rogaine or Propecia, there is still hope with the use of Avodart hair loss treatment.

Avodart Hair Loss Treatment Could Be the Solution

At this time Avodart hair loss treatment has not been approved by the FDA for hair loss but has been approved by the FDA for the management of enlarged prostate (BPH) condition only. A similar story was seen in the case for Proscar (Finasteride), the drug aimed at the treatment of enlarged prostate. Proscar (Finasteride) was soon after approved for the treatment of hair loss as well, under the name Propecia.

Avodart hair loss treatment restrains a hormone known as DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT is a hormone that seems to cause hair loss also known as MPB Male Pattern Baldness in most males. DHT is also the most important culprit of prostate enlargement in many men also known as BPH Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. Avodart works by holding back the activities of two types of 5-alpha-reductase enzymes. These enzymes are to blame for altering testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Avodart hair loss treatment will lower DHT levels considerably.

Both medications operate in the same way, reducing DHT levels. Nevertheless, Avodart hair loss treatment slows down the action of two types of 5-alpha-reductase enzymes (type I and type II). Propecia (Finasteride) only slows down one kind of the enzyme (type II). Avodart is more powerful; it has been shown to reduce levels of DHT by almost 30% more than Proepcia (Finasteride).

Availability of Avodart Hair Loss Treatment

Avodart hair loss treatment is only available by prescription, and unfortunately numerous physicians will not give a prescription for the drug for baldness for the reason that it is only for BPH and not hair loss. If you are using Dutasteride or Avodart as a treatment for thinning hair or hair loss otherwise known as Male Pattern baldness, I suggest that you also check other resources for more hair loss and hair transplant information.

The final story on Avodart safety and effectiveness are not out yet. DHT blockers last only as long as they are effective in your body. Propecia is effective for 24 hours only, so you should take it every day. Avodart lasts from 3+ months to possibly in your body for over a year, however they recommend a daily dose for prostate problems, which makes no sense to me. I have heard that Avodart is a better DHT blocker for baldness than Propecia, using a slightly different mechanism of action.

Even though doctors have not yet prescribed Avodart hair loss treatment, there are some that are currently evaluating the indications for doing so on a case by case basis. There are premature signs that point to Avodart's efficiency, but there is more involved when one goes outside the FDA guidelines for prescription drugs.

Avodart hair loss treatment standard dosage is 0.5mg of the active ingredient dutasteride per soft gelatin pill. The pill is compounded by liquefying 0.5mg of dutaseride in a mixture of mono-di-glycerides caprylic/capric acid and butylated hydroxytoluene. Other ingredients include BSE-free bovine gelatin, glycerin and yellow ferric oxide.

If you are capable of getting hold of Dutasteride in its unprocessed form, you might even be able to mix your own Dutasteride topical solution. It was reported in Avodart's prescribing information that the medication is absorbed through the skin as well. Dutasteride in its raw form is a white-yellowish powder. It is impossible to disssolve in water but can easily be dissolved in ethanol (44mg/mL), methanol (64 mg/mL) and polyethylene glycol 400 (3mg/mL). In any case, please bear in mind that efficacy of Dutasteride or Avodart hair loss treatment has not been clinically established as of yet. For this reason, I recommend you consult a physician or an expert first before making any decisions
